The Lir was conceived as a cultural hub of its own with a diverse range of students on a variety of courses linked to the distinct professional disciplines. At night, it opens its doors to the public and will offer a developing programme of performances, films, playreadings, talks and lectures. When plans are complete to open The Lir’s café/bar to the public it will become a place for theatre professionals, students of The Lir, and the general public to meet, interact and socialise. The next generation of theatre, film, radio and television drama makers will be nurtured at The Lir and it is vitally important for the students to interact between their respective disciplines but also with established professions and the wider public. The Lir building offers the possibility of such interaction to take place in a convivial atmosphere.
