Bachelor in Acting (Hons)
A three-year full-time course designed to equip students with the skills necessary to work professionally in the theatre and related professions.
Professional Diploma in Stage Management and Technical Theatre.
A two-year Level 8 course designed to equip students with the skills necessary for a career as a stage manager and/or technical specialist in the professional theatre and related industries.
How to apply
Applicants must first apply for an audition (BA) or an interview (DIP). At the BA audition they will present a three minute classical monologue and a three minute monologue from the contemporary repertoire, followed by a short interview. At the Diploma interview they will present a portfolio which should include all relevant material relating to previous experience in Stage Management and Technical Theatre e.g. brochures from shows, photos or posters. Those students who show natural talent and a potential for training at the audition will be invited to further round(s) of auditions where they will be assessed as part of an ensemble. Similarly, students who show natural talent and a potential for training at the Stage Management and Technical Theatre interview may be required to attend further interviews.
Please note: both courses are not part of the CAO point’s race. Students are expected to have achieved the minimum matriculation requirements for Trinity College Dublin courses, however, exceptions may be made based on the demonstration of exception natural talent at auditions and interviews. Students who are successful after the final round of auditions and interviews will then be asked to formally apply to Trinity College for admission to the course. Successful students will not only be students of The Lir, but also students of Trinity College.
To apply for an audition for the Bachelor in Acting or to apply for an interview for the Professional Diploma in Stage Management and Technical Theatre please complete the APPLICATION FORM available here. The Audition/Interview Fee is €50 and is payable at the time of application.
There will be at least two rounds of auditions. Therefore applicants are advised to apply as early as possible in order to avoid second auditions clashing with school examinations. The application process is now closed for the BA in Acting 2012 but we are still accepting applications for The Professional Diploma in Stage Management and Technical Theatre 2012.
