Overview

The course will begin with an introduction to various puppet forms set in the context of performance and with a special focus on carving from foam sponge and using sheet foam to model form. Students will have a chance to handle, photograph or draw puppet samples and do some basic design work for a glove or rod puppet or they can bring a design they have already prepared. The students will be brought through the process of creating a puppet through demonstrations and supervised independent work and will have an opportunity to learn also from each others’ work.  At the end of the course they will have an understanding of Puppet creation from concept through design to fine finish and will have the means to complete a finished puppet.

Acceptance onto the course is at the discretion of The Lir. If The Lir feels for whatever reason that they are not suitable for the course, he/she will not be accepted. All decisions are final and not subject to appeal.
