Completing your application

To apply for any of the undergraduate courses at The Lir Academy, you need to fill out an online application form. The information below will let you know what to expect before you start the process!

To start your application to one of our three undergraduate courses, you can head to the course page and click on the "Apply Now" button. This will take you to the start of the application form for that course. You can fill out your application on any device of your choosing, although it may be more accessible to do so on a laptop or desktop computer.

The application form is divided in sections.

We will first ask you about which courses you are applying for, and whether you have applied before.

The next section asks about your personal details; in this section, we will ask that you submit a current photograph that shows you from the shoulders up clearly. This can be a professional headshot, a passport style photograph or a simple portrait picture on a blank background (i.e. a selfie) - max. size is 1MB. This picture is for our records only.

We also invite you to disclose any disability or other access needs in this section. While this is not mandatory, we highly encourage you to share this with us - this information has no impact on your success chances and will not be shared with the admissions panel. This section is there to help our Admissions team ensure that you come in to your interview or audition into an environment that is fit for your needs, and that you feel the space is safe for you to perform at your best.

In the next sections, we ask for your contact details and address. We will then ask some questions that will help determine your residency status for fee purposes (EU or non-EU).

The following section, we invite you to share your education experience. You will not need to provide any certificates or diplomas at this stage. All the information we ask for can be written in the text boxes provided for this. Copies of exam results or diplomas will not be requested from you until you are offered a place to study with us for registration purposes.

Next, we will ask about your relevant experience. In this section, you will also be able to provide your resume or other additional documents. For those applying for the Bachelor (Hons) in Acting and the Foundation Diploma in Acting and Theatre, we will ask for your audition speeches in this section. Make sure you read the guidelines for these before submitting. You can change your speeches before your audition - simply email admissions@thelir.ie for this.

We will then ask some questions about how you found us. This information is used by our marketing department to improve our communications and has no bearing on your application.

Finally, we will ask that you read and understand our Terms & Conditions, before going ahead and booking your interview/audition date and time. When you go into this section, you will have a drop down menu with the available dates and times. For auditions, you will first have to select the location - whether you are attending in person at The Lir Academy or online. All interviews for the Bachelor (Hons) Stage Management & Technical Theatre are online.

While filling out the form, you are able to go back to the previous page to change the information you have input before. However, be mindful that images or other attachments do not save automatically into the form; every time you go back to a page you will have to upload the content again.

If you need to take a break and come back to your application later, this is possible - the form saves automatically as you progress. Once you log back in to your account, you can pick up from where you left off.

Once you submit your application, you will not be able to go back and edit your answers, so make sure that you have reviewed your answers before going ahead.

Before submitting your application for the Bachelor (Hons) in Acting and the Foundation Diploma, you will have to pay your application fee. Only when you have completed the payment will your audition booking be saved and your application complete. While there is no application fee for the Bachelor (Hons) in Stage Management & Technical Theatre, there is a small booking fee of €1.50.

For the Bachelor (Hons) in Stage Management, you will receive further instructions once you have submitted your application on how to submit your portfolio. You will have until the week before your scheduled interview to submit your portfolio.

We wish you the best of luck with your application. If you have any questions, please let us know on admissions@thelir.ie
