The world in Caryl Churchill’s play The Skriker is influenced by malevolent forces, evil fairies adopting various guises determined to destroy lives, to soak up energy and leave behind a trail of destruction. Two friends struggle to keep a grip on reality when they are faced with a shapeshifter who has come from the underworld to seduce, plague, dominate and torment them through time and space.

Written in 1993, The Skriker premiered at the National Theatre in London in 1994.
