A new partnership

The Lir Academy is excited to partner with lighting controls expert Artistic Licence (UK)
We are delighted to announce lighting controls expert Artistic Licence as a new Technical Partner of The Lir National Academy of Dramatic Art at Trinity College Dublin. Established in 1988, Artistic Licence design and manufacture products that control light, from the latest solid-state LED technology to more traditional sources. Their range covers test equipment and data distribution and they are a major supplier of OEM solutions worldwide. Artistic Licence supports The Lir’s approach to education and best-practice in training which is facilitated in the new Bachelor in Stage Management and Technical Theatre. Artistic Licence and its CEO, Wayne Howell - inventor of the Art-Net lighting protocol and recent Gottelier award winner comments: "As a company, we have always promoted education and training, so I am delighted with this arrangement. Understanding best practice in the implementation of lighting networks and control distribution is a crucial skill in the modern industry. And of course, it is beneficial for Artistic Licence if people are trained using our gear!" Director of Technical Training at The Lir, Barry Conway, identified networking in lighting as a key area of focus for the Academy's BA in Stage Management and Technical Theatre and when identifying a partner in this space, Artistic Licence was top of Barry’s list. As Conway explains: "I have been very excited about expanding our technical offering to coincide with our new three year Bachelor in Stage Management and Technical Theatre degree which replaced the two-year professional diploma this year. Network control is a fundamental component of lighting and with this partnership, The Lir Academy are educating the next generation of techs using the best equipment available." Following a significant gift of equipment to turbocharge the new course, students will benefit from hands-on training with Artistic's brand new artLynx gateways, along with premium DMX distribution products from the company's versaSplit range. Working in partnership with Artistic Licence means The Lir’s students are given access to some of the latest technology on the market. As Barry Conway concludes: "Having a company like Artistic Licence on-board as one of The Lir’s key Technical Partners is a very exciting prospect. Known for their reliability and innovative approach, the reputation of Artistic Licence is second to none”.
