Lighting Design for Dance Project is seeking Choreographers
Working with project partner, Dance Ireland, we are looking for two early career choreographers to take part in a project that will run from January 7th to January 30th, 2026.
The project is mentored by Lighting Designer and Lir Academy MFA Lighting Tutor, Sinéad Wallace. It pairs early career choreographers with lighting design MFA students from The Lir, National Academy of Dramatic Art at Trinity College Dublin.
Project partners are The Lir Academy and Dance Ireland.
This project offers a series of structured supports including:
- Free rehearsal space at DanceHouse or The Lir Academy to develop work
- Guidance and mentoring from a professional lighting designer throughout the process
- Use of Studio 1 at The Lir Academy for weekly exploratory workshops
- Technical support and expertise throughout the process
- Opportunity to present the Work-in-Progress at a showing of work to an invited audience
- Professional photographs and video of final showing for personal use
- Stipend for participation
The ideal candidate will be:
- Interested in expanding their own understanding of lighting design
- An emerging choreographer with a piece of work in development
- Interested in collaborating with a student lighting designer
We understand that the resources available are limited, and may be best suited for solo or duet work in development.
