Overview

This weekend course is designed specifically for those aged 60 and over who are curious about the magic of performance. Whether you’re looking to boost your confidence, meet like-minded people, or tick 'acting' off your wishlist of interests, this course offers a warm, inclusive, and joyful introduction to the craft. Alongside the world-class teaching of our Lir tutors, the course will focus on accessibility, comfort, and the joy of shared creativity.

What to Expect

Forget the 'theatre school' stereotypes of high-stress rehearsals. This weekend is all about play, connection, and discovery. Across two days, you will:

Unlock Your Voice: Learn gentle vocal techniques to improve projection and clarity.

Explore Character: Discover how to inhabit a role using your own unique life experiences.

Master the Scene: Work with fun, accessible scripts in a supportive pair-work environment.

Build Confidence: Engage in low-impact movement and improvisation games designed to be easy on the body but stimulating for the mind.

Is this for me? Absolutely. No previous experience is required, and there are no lines to memorise before you arrive. We prioritise a relaxed pace with plenty of seating and a focus on the social, "ensemble" spirit of acting. Large-print scripts will also be available.

Join us for a weekend of laughter, creativity, and storytelling. Your next great performance starts here!

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the weekend, participants will:

Understand the Foundational Concepts of Acting. The course will give you the basics of 'Given Circumstances' and 'Objectives' (the 'who, where, and what' of a scene).

Develop Vocal Presence: Learn gentle techniques to support the voice and improve clarity without strain.

Enhance Spatial Awareness: Feel more comfortable moving and inhabiting a stage environment.

Master Collaborative Improvisation: Build the confidence to create spontaneous characters and stories with others.

Interpret Text: Gain the tools to approach a short script and bring a character to life truthfully.
