The Introduction to Acting course at The Lir Academy is one of our most popular programmes. It’s ideal for people who want to push their creativity through performance and are interested in exploring a career in acting.
This course, taught by highly regarded Lir practitioners David Scott and Ruth Lehane, is an ideal way to get a taste of what it's like to study at The Lir Academy and experience a typical day there, over the course of a weekend. You can see more on them below.
Our training demands total commitment to body, voice, and movement to hone your skills and become a practitioner who is ready for the industry. Our actors gain these abilities through seminars and modules that employ drills and methods to build the physical rigour and discipline required, as well as the critical thinking needed to approach a part.
These weekend workshops serve as a general and fundamental introduction to acting technique as well as a taste of training at drama school.
No previous experience is required, courses are suitable for people aged 18+.

About David Michael Scott
David is originally from Australia and moved to Ireland in 2004. He has an uncompromising passion for the professional development of emerging artists and the highest quality of actor training. He has developed his own technical practice, has self-designed and directed actor training programs including The Applied Art of Acting, and written three textbooks on acting, theatre, and film practice.
David also founded Company D Theatre, specifically designed to provide opportunities and theatrical education for emerging actors. He has written, directed and produced many stage plays and has self-published thirteen complete plays. He continues to act professionally under the name David Michael Scott.
About Ruth Lehane
Ruth Lehane is an award-winning actress, writer and theatre-maker. She has toured with her work internationally to Barcelona, Berlin, UK, Bulgaria, Romania and New York. Ruth was the winner of Best Female Performer Award - Dublin Fringe Festival 2012 for The Lehane Trilogy…a theatre show in six parts which she wrote and performed. The follow up, RUTH 66, was a huge success at Fringe 2013.
