Introduction to Lighting Design - Weekend Course

Overview

A practical 2-day course and introduction to the principles and equipment used in lighting design for theatre led by Head of Lighting at The Lir Academy, Eve D’Alton.

Day one will explore the aims of lighting for the stage. You’ll be introduced to the lighting equipment and kit used in theatres and explore how to use colour and angles in lighting design.

On day two you will go further into the practicalities of how to create your own designs for the stage. Learning how to draw lighting plans, make Q lists and bring your own designs to life.

The course is perfect for beginners and people involved in amateur or school productions who wish to gain a better insight into the world of theatre, and prospective students who are considering stage management and technical theatre as a career.

Course tutor, Eve D’Alton has worked in theatre for over 19 years specialising in lighting. She has worked across multiple platforms including new writing, touring, tv and digital media. Her previous role as Deputy Technical Manager at Soho Theatre, London included working as Production Electrician and Chief Lighting Programmer for new and innovative theatre including “Fleabag” (Olivier Nominated) and “Silent” (Olivier Award Winner).
